Students will be able to discuss a stance on the Civil Rights Movement by reading a primary source newspaper article from The Chicago Defender.
Explanation-
Students will read a primary source on the Civil Rights Movement. Primary sources show students scholarly, first-hand account examples that highlight thoughts of the time period. This activity prepares students for later educational endeavors, specifically college level learning. It allows for higher level thinking and analysis of the text which students would not understand by solely looking at secondary sources. A discussion will assess if they understood what information and insights the text provides about the Civil Rights Movement.
